NFL Picks Week 11: Predicting Teams Sure to Be on the Losing End of Blowouts

Ryan PhillipsNov 16, 2011

We're now 10 weeks into the 2011 NFL season and at this point, we have a pretty good sense of where each of the league's 32 teams stands.

While a few squads like the Philadelphia Eagles and San Diego Chargers continue to baffle viewers game in and game out, most everyone else has fallen into a comfortable pattern, and we know exactly how they will perform each week.

This weekend, three teams that we know are pretty dang terrible will get taken to the woodshed. Here's a breakdown of each of those coming blowouts.

Washington Redskins (3-6)

1 of 3

After racing to a 3-1 start and bragging to the world that they were the team to beat in the NFC, the Washington Redskins have fallen flat as a board. Despite having playmakers like tight end Fred Davis and rookie running back Roy Helu, Washington's offense has been as inconsistent and disappointing as any in the NFL.

The Redskins currently rank 27th in the NFL in total offense, averaging just 310.1 yards per game. They are also scoring a pathetic 15.1 points per game, which ranks 28th league-wide.

Washington's offense was led by Rex Grossman for the first six games of the season, but after his inevitable implosion, John Beck has taken over under center. Unfortunately for Redskins fans, Beck hasn't been much better, as his 72.1 quarterback rating should tell you.

This Sunday, the 'Skins host the rival Dallas Cowboys, who are 5-4 and coming off of consecutive victories. With rookie running back DeMarco Murray looking like the second-coming of Eric Dickerson over the past few weeks, the Cowboys should be able to control the clock against Washington and dominate the game.

I just don't expect the Redskins to generate any kind of positive movement offensively in this one, and a blowout is certainly possible.

Prediction: Dallas 37, Washington 14

Kansas City Chiefs (4-5)

2 of 3

The Kansas City Chiefs were already struggling, but now their quarterback, Matt Cassel, may be lost for the season after he had to undergo surgery on his right hand on Monday. While the Chiefs remain hopeful that Cassel could return at some point this season, the team's immediate prospects are dim.

Tyler Palko will now be the team's starter in the near term, and that starts on Monday night when Kansas City goes on the road to face the New England Patriots. Welcome to the big show, Tyler.

The Chiefs have suffered consecutive disappointing losses to the Miami Dolphins and Denver Broncos, and now without Cassel, things could get really ugly. Kansas City's offense currently ranks 28th in the NFL, averaging 306.7 yards per game. With Cassel sidelined, expect those numbers to get a lot worse.

The Patriots are piling up yards this season, as they are averaging 436.9 per game (second in the NFL). That trend is sure to continue on Monday night, as the Pats will have a raucous crowd urging them on.

The Chiefs have faced a ton of injuries this season and having Cassel go down may finally be the back breaker.

Prediction: New England 42, Kansas City 13

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-5)

3 of 3

After surprising everyone by going 10-6 in 2010, much was expected of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this year. Unfortunately, the Bucs have failed to live up to those expectations and now find themselves at 4-5 and traveling to Green Bay to take on the 9-0 Packers in Week 11.

The Packers are rolling right now behind quarterback Aaron Rodgers. As a team, Green Bay is averaging an NFL-high 35.6 points per game and will be facing a Tampa Bay squad that ranks 31st in the NFL in yards allowed (401.2 per game). That's bad news for the Bucs.

Expecting Tampa Bay and its 16th-ranked offense (331 yards per game) to keep up with the Packers' explosive squad would be foolish. The Bucs just don't have it this season, and Green Bay is lighting up defenses all over the league.

Prediction: Green Bay 45, Tampa Bay 17
