BCS Rankings: Which Two-Loss Teams Are Most Dangerous?

Tim DanielsNov 16, 2011

There's a logjam of two-loss teams just outside the BCS top 10 that are waiting for some upsets and an opportunity to pounce. Everybody knows the only chance these squads have of crashing the party is winning out, but which ones are the most dangerous? Let's examine.

No. 12 South Carolina Gamecocks

Many analysts wrote South Carolina off after Marcus Lattimore went down with an injury and Stephen Garcia was let go from the team. Instead, the Gamecocks have overcome adversity and are currently the top-ranked team with two losses.

The offense hasn't been as explosive without the aforementioned duo, but the defense has stepped in a big way in recent weeks to help keep the Gamecocks afloat. A season-finale clash with Clemson will provide them with a huge opportunity to leapfrog into the top 10.

Week 12 Prediction: South Carolina 45, Citadel 7

No. 14 Georgia Bulldogs

Georgia is one win away from clinching the SEC East, with Kentucky being the only team standing in the Bulldogs' way. That would likely set up a game against No. 1 LSU in the SEC Championship Game and an opportunity to send the BCS into pandemonium.

The biggest reason for Georgia's turnaround after an 0-2 start is the play of Aaron Murray, who is quickly developing into an elite SEC quarterback. The Bulldogs would be sizable underdogs against the Tigers, but have enough talent to shock the football world.

Week 12 Prediction: Georgia 42, Kentucky 10

No. 17 Wisconsin Badgers

Wisconsin dropped consecutive games to Michigan State and Ohio State in late October, causing the Badgers to fad into the cluttered background. However, with Penn State's tough schedule and surrounding circumstances, Wisconsin is right back in the BCS conversation.

Russell Wilson and Montee Ball are a formidable combo on offense, but it's the defense that didn't make enough plays in their two losses. Assuming they avoid another upset against Illinois, the Badgers will control their own Big Ten destiny heading into the final week vs. the Nittany Lions.

Week 12 Prediction: Wisconsin 38, Illinois 17
