WWE Survivor Series 2011: Why The Rock and John Cena Can't Win

Finally, The Rock is coming back to wrestle in WWE. The tag team match to end all tag team matches takes place in five days, and the common consensus seems to be that The Great One and John Cena will prevail over Miz and R-Truth. To those people I say that you are missing the bigger picture.

It is great to have Rock back in a wrestling ring, and traditionally when a superstar returns to wrestle after a lengthy absence they go over. However, that would be sacrificing a potentially huge number of buys for WrestleMania.

How so? It is quite simple, really: Cena is going to screw The Rock in the match and allow Miz and Truth to steal a victory.

Survivor Series has always been the show that kicks off the Road to WrestleMania, and since we already know the main event of next year’s event, WWE needs to do something to make that match feel more epic than it already does.

Rock can’t turn on Cena because he already cost him a match this year’s WrestleMania. It’s weak storytelling to have him do it again.

Plus, Rock made the decision to come back and team with Cena. He is the one that wants to win the match.

Cena has no reason or motivation to want to win the match. He has already defeated Miz, two weeks ago on Raw, and laid out R-Truth immediately after. Why does he care what happens at the end of the match?

Since the build for Survivor Series has been, frankly, terrible, and WWE needs to do something major to entice the fans into buying WrestleMania.

The buy rate for this show is going be big just because it is Rock’s first match back and with all the eyeball tuning into see it, what better time to have Cena screw Rock?

Rock does not need the rub in his first match back, and Cena needs to do something to inject some life into his stale character.

Miz and Truth are going to go over in this match, even though they will not be elevated because it will come thanks to Cena screwing Rock. But it doesn’t matter because the start of WrestleMania season always injects life into the creative team.
