Kevin Kolb's Signal Stealing Proves It's Time for Andy Reid to Leave Philly

Eric BallNov 16, 2011

Did Kevin Kolb just seal Andy Reid’s fate?

The former Philadelphia Eagle QB and current Arizona Cardinal was on the Philly radio air waves with Anthony Gargano and Glen Macnow on 94 WIP and mentioned a very interesting tid bit about his Cardinals victory over the 3-6 “dream team” this past Sunday:

"

It was funny, as they were lining up for the plays, I'd go 'Hold on, they're gonna do this.' And you don't know if they changed things up or what... but the ones that I was for sure on, I was letting it ring, and I think I helped us out maybe just a little bit here and there.

Later in the interview he changed his tone a bit. He made it sound like he definitely had an impact on the game, especially in the fourth quarter:

"

During the two-minute drill, you almost feel guilty. Mike’s sitting there giving the signals, and I’m standing there on our sidelines, screaming at our corners, 'Hey it’s a go ball, hey he’s running a screen, hey he’s running a slant.

"

This is a crushing blow to Reid. If he is too lazy to change his hand signals from one year to the next that means every former-Eagle may have been calling out his hand-signals throughout the years. Vick played his worst game as an Eagle, completing just 16 of 34 passes for 128 yards and two interceptions.

He averaged just 3.8 yards per attempt.

Coincidence? He had to tuck and run or was sacked nine times on 43 dropbacks. Hmmm.

This is completely on the coaching staff and their laziness. Do you blame Reid? He has been the Eagles head coach since 1999, which makes him the longest tenured coach in the league.

He must be sick of constantly changing the hand signals year in and year out.

Then again, you have to anticipate that Kolb was likely going to miss the game due to a turf toe injury and would be keenly aware of his old teams sidelines. It’s a huge gaffe that is 100 times worse now that it’s out in the open.

At 3-6 and with his team’s playoff hopes currently on life support, it’s hard to imagine that Reid will be able to survive this season. Too much talent and money invested in the biggest disappointment in the league.

Five NFC Championship appearances, and one Super Bowl are a distant memory at this point.

Reid is a walking dead man and Kolb just poured a big bag of salt in his wounds.
