WWE Survivor Series 2011: Predicting the Winners of Every Match
Survivor Series is only days away and the hype level for the event is getting higher every minute.
WWE fans everywhere want to know if CM Punk will re-claim the WWE Championship, if Zack Ryder will finally become more than the Internet Champion and if the Rock and John Cena can actually function as a tag team.
We will know the answers to all these questions come Sunday night but for now, here are my predictions for each match at Survivor Series.
United States Championship: Dolph Ziggler (c) vs. Zack Ryder
1 of 6We won't know if this match is official until Friday Night SmackDown, but I think it is safe to say that the Internet Champion will get his shot at Dolph Ziggler and the United States Championship.
Ryder has become one of the fastest risers in the company, and he is ready to hold a mid-card belt. I had the pleasure of attending Monday Night RAW this week in Boston, and after the Rock had departed backstage and the cameras were shut off, do you know what the crowd chanted?
"We want Ryder!"
Ryder has become incredibly over with the fans, and Ziggler is ready to move on from the mid-card to main-event status. It would make sense to have Ryder walk away Sunday as the new United States Champion, while Ziggler can start thinking about his future conquests for a world title.
Prediction: Zack Ryder (new United States Champion)
Diva's Championship: Beth Phoenix (c) vs. Eve
2 of 6Beth Phoenix defeated Kelly Kelly for the Diva's Championship two months ago at the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view and then successfully defended her title at Vengeance a month later against Eve Torres.
Eve won a Halloween battle royal a few weeks ago and now she gets another shot at the title at Survivor Series. Phoenix has only had the title for a couple months and normally I would be inclined to say that she will defeat Eve again on Sunday, but now I'm not so sure.
The WWE has been busy promoting Kelly Kelly the last couple weeks, and Phoenix hasn't looked very strong of late. I think that Eve will capitalize on her second straight shot at the title and will become the new Diva's Champion.
The Divas of Doom angle has failed and the WWE will probably head towards some kind of new angle with Eve and Kelly Kelly over the next few months.
Prediction: Eve (new Diva's Champion)
Team Orton vs. Team Barrett
3 of 6The excitement level for this 5-on-5 elimination match just isn't there for me. There's nothing on the line and now that we've seen Wade Barrett vs. Randy Orton twice in a row, the hype level is even lower.
I'm sure it will be a fun match and we will all get to see a bunch of finishers, but Team Orton will end up winning. Orton's team doesn't gain anything from winning, but the WWE knows that the fans at Survivor Series would rather see RKOs than Wastelands at the conclusion of the match.
Sorry, Barrett, but this isn't your day.
Prediction: Team Orton
World Heavyweight Championship: Mark Henry (c) vs. Big Show
4 of 6The World Heavyweight Championship match at Survivor Series is a rematch of the Vengeance match, as the Big Show will try to defeat Mark Henry yet again.
Unfortunately for Big Show, I don't see it happening, for two different reasons.
First, Mark Henry is too strong of a heel right now to lose to the Big Show. Henry is one of the best monster heels in the WWE in quite some time and another monster like the Big Show is not the right superstar to take Henry down...which leads me to my second reason.
If Big Show defeated Mark Henry at Survivor Series, how would Daniel Bryan cash in his Money in the Bank on Mark Henry after the match? I'm going to make a bold prediction here and say that when Henry is left battered in the ring after retaining, Bryan will cash in his briefcase.
I know that he said he was waiting till WrestleMania, but his matches with Henry have led me to believe that the WWE is getting us ready for a feud between Bryan and Henry, which could start if Bryan cashes in after Henry retains against Big Show.
It's a long shot, but anything's possible.
Prediction No. 1: Mark Henry Retains
Prediction No. 2: Daniel Bryan Cashes in MITB (new World Heavyweight Champion)
WWE Championship: Alberto Del Rio (c) vs. CM Punk
5 of 6CM Punk hasn't had the WWE Championship since he lost it to Alberto Del Rio at SummerSlam; he is ready to become the champ yet again.
But it won't happen at Survivor Series.
Alberto Del Rio is finally looking like a legitimate heel and champion, and I think he needs one more big win before he loses the title. This has the potential to be a great match, and whether he wins cleanly or dirty, Del Rio will walk out of MSG as WWE Champion.
Punk can find some way to get a rematch at TLC and there he can the WWE Championship for a lengthy title run, which he has been waiting for since the summer.
Prediction: Alberto Del Rio (still WWE Champion)
John Cena and The Rock vs. The Miz and R-Truth
6 of 6The Great One and Superman couldn't possibly lose to Miz and R-Truth, right?
There are so many ways that the WWE could go with this match, and the possibilities for the fallout of this match are endless. I, for one, think that Cena should turn on the Rock at Survivor Series and turn heel in the process.
As much as I would love for that to happen, I don't think the WWE is ready to turn the face of the company into a heel, so that probably won't happen.
Instead, I think that Rock will turn on Cena in the ring and give him a Rock Bottom, leading to an Awesome Truth victory. This way, Cena remains as a face in the WWE, Awesome Truth continues to build steam with a victory and the rivalry between the Rock and Cena is taken to a whole new level.
This match should be great, as it builds steam for Wrestlemania XXVIII.
Prediction: Miz and R-Truth win after Rock takes out Cena
