Bowl Projections: Michigan Wolverines and More Teams Missing out on BCS Bowls
The BCS is an unfair and cruel way to determine the college football national champion. Teams are constantly left out of BCS bowl games, even after having a great season. It’s why a team like the Michigan Wolverines will unfairly be left out after a great year.
Yes Michigan has had a great season so far. Their eight wins through ten games is the most for a Michigan team since the days when Lloyd Carr was the head coach. They currently sit behind Michigan State in the Legends division. Which will be the reason why they miss out on this year’s Rose Bowl.
Michigan will have decisive wins in their final two games over Nebraska and Ohio State. As, Denard Robinson will prove to be too much for both teams to contain. As well the Michigan defense, which has been overlooked this year, will shut down Taylor Martinez and Nebraska. While pitching a shut out against Ohio State to end the season.
The ten wins will be a huge step forward for the Wolverines, but will not be enough to make a BCS bowl game.
Just like Michigan, the South Carolina Gamecocks will suffer the same fate.
As South Carolina has faced a lot of adversity this year and still has a chance at winning the SEC East division. That says a lot of the character of this team, as they did not fold when they lost Stephan Garcia (team suspension) and Marcus Lattimore (injury).
However, their loss a couple of weeks ago to Arkansas sent them behind Georgia, where they will stay for the remainder of the season. Georgia will win out against Kentucky this week and Georgia Tech the following week. Which will prevent the Gamecocks from climbing back into the SEC championship game.
South Carolina has a great chance at finishing with 10 wins on the season. They have a cupcake game against The Citadel this week, while their defense will prove to be too much for Clemson the next week.
It will be a shame to see a team with such potential miss out because of bad luck this year.
Although there is one more team that will fail to make a BCS bowl game, even after having an amazing season.
That team is the Arkansas Razorbacks.
Arkansas picked up the pieces after quarterback Ryan Mallett left for the NFL. They are 9-1 on the season, and have one of the best passing attacks in the nation. However, they still have one huge road block in front of them. That road block is the No. 2 defense in college football in the LSU Tigers.
The Razorbacks will struggle against LSU in their final game of the regular season, which will put to rest any BCS chances they had. The loss will make them another 10-2 team that will miss out on a BCS bowl game.
Three teams all that will finish an amazing 10-2 on the season. In any other sport, they would be celebrated for such a great season. However, in college football they will be sent away to a bowl game on January 2nd.
