WWE Survivor Series 2011: Why Wade Barrett Will Steal the Show

Mike ChiariNov 16, 2011

With the 25th anniversary of Survivor Series set to commence on Sunday, essentially all of the hype is surrounding the tag-team match pitting The Miz and R-Truth against John Cena and The Rock, and that is for good reason.

Whenever The Rock is involved in something, it is going to be huge, and while he is going to put on a great show, the true star of the night is going to be Wade Barrett. Just last year, Barrett burst onto the scene by winning NXT and forming the Nexus stable.

Barrett was involved in a high-profile feud with Cena and was given quite a few main-event matches during his time with the Nexus. Once the Nexus dissolved, though, Barrett fell in terms of his place on the card, and he fell fast.

Few superstars have the full allotment to skills that Barrett possesses. Not only does he have great size, but his in-ring ability is impressive and he has excellent charisma on the microphone. Despite that, Barrett was toiling in mediocrity for the past several months.

Barrett has experienced a renaissance of sorts in recent weeks, though, as he has scored impressive victories over the likes of Daniel Bryan, Sheamus and Randy Orton. Barrett seems poised to take yet another step in his rebirth as his team faces off against Team Orton at Survivor Series.

Team Barrett will consist of Barrett himself, Cody Rhodes, Jack Swagger, Dolph Ziggler and Hunico, while Team Orton will be Orton, Sheamus, Mason Ryan, Kofi Kingston and Sin Cara.

While both teams have impressive rosters (with the exception of the wretched Mason Ryan), this match should be all about the advancement of Barrett. The WWE has done an excellent job of building Barrett into a threat recently, and that needs to continue.

Orton really doesn't have anything to gain by burying Barrett's momentum as he has been booked as unbeatable over the past couple years. Because of that, Orton could literally lose 100 matches in a row and not lose his edge.

On the other hand, one loss could knock Barrett off track. Traditional Survivor Series matches have done wonders for the careers of many top stars, and if Barrett picks up the win in this match and scores several eliminations, he could soon be on his way to a run with the World Heavyweight Championship.
