NFL Power Rankings: The 5 Best NFL Coaches
Have you ever wondered which coaches are really good at what they do in the NFL?
Is there someone out there besides Bill Belichick that is not only a winner but a smart coach that’s good with his players and knows his opponents? Is Mike Tomlin on the list? How about Andy Reid?
Let’s take a look at the top five coaches in the NFL so far this season and see where they stand.
1. Mike McCarthy-Green Bay Packers
1 of 5Mike McCarthy is not only here because his team remains undefeated, but because he has helped build and coach one of the most consistent winners in the league.
He’s installed the most potent offense in the NFL, developed one of the best quarterbacks in the league and has helped put together a pretty strong defense.
McCarthy and his team have been molded into a winner and are difficult to beat. It’s great coaching that’s brought this team to the point it is at today.
2. Mike Tomlin-Pittsburgh Steelers
2 of 5Since Mike Tomlin took over the Pittsburgh Steelers' coaching job after Bill Cowher, the team really hasn’t missed a beat. He’s brought the team to a few Super Bowls and has continued the tradition of winning brought on by the previous head coaches (Cowher and, of course, Chuck Noll).
It looks like Tomlin and his team could make another run at a Super Bowl this year.
You have to give credit to Tomlin and his coaching staff for keeping the team winning consistently, while also making adjustments to the scheme and the players to help keep them ahead of their opponents.
3. Bill Belichick-New England Patriots
3 of 5Why is Bill Belichick on this list at No. 3?
It’s mostly because his team isn’t winning on a consistent basis. Granted, the Patriots are still a good team and are led by one of the best in the business, but Belichick and his crew has fallen off a little bit.
Belichick is a master at drafting and getting the right personnel to fit his system and knows when it’s time to let a player go or bring another one aboard.
The Patriots may be on a bit of a downswing lately, but if there is a coach that can get them back to winning and into the playoffs and it’s Belichick.
4. John Harbaugh-Baltimore Ravens
4 of 5Speaking of someone that gets his team to win on a consistent basis, John Harbaugh has managed to keep his team in playoff contention since he arrived in Baltimore and has managed to help find an offense to go along with the still somewhat dominant defense that this team once had.
People fear playing the Ravens because of their hard-hitting style on defense and their smash-mouth offense.
Harbaugh will get his team to a Super Bowl some day, but at the least, he is the head coach of one of the most competitive teams in the AFC and all of football.
5. Jim Schwartz-Detroit Lions
5 of 5Remember when the Lions went 0-16? The next year they had Jim Schwartz as their head coach and he started to turn the team around.
Now, the team has managed to become the second-best team in its division, starting the year with a nice winning streak. Schwartz and his coaching staff have put together something special and perhaps with a few more pieces to the puzzle, this team will turn into a perennial winner.
At least for now, the Lions have managed to improve greatly and could help bring pride back to the football team and the city that has had to endure years of inferiority.
