Tom Bradley Press Conference: Penn State's Interim Head Coach Shines Again

Tim DanielsNov 15, 2011

Tom Bradley stepped into an incredibly difficult situation at Penn State and has done a terrific job. The Nittany Lions' interim head coach possesses all of the traits that are necessary to get the university back on track.

The most important trait is his honesty.

Bradley has taken time to consider every question thrown his way by the media. If he's unable to answer one, he makes that clear right away. There's no dancing around the issues at hand because it's clear they won't be going away any time soon.

By taking over a position once held by Joe Paterno, Bradley shows he's up for any challenge, even a crisis that has rocked a prestigious school to its core.

With so many question marks surrounding the program, a lot of coaches might have shied away from the spotlight and its obvious scrutiny. It also illustrates that Bradley has nothing to hide because you know multiple journalists have been digging for a scoop since he took over.

One of the most interesting things to emerge from today's press conference was Bradley saying his team would accept a bowl bid, if one was offered following the regular season. As of now, Penn State still has a chance to claim a BCS spot.

Saturday's game brought the community together, which was a necessary step in recovery, and future games might be able to do the same. By accepting a potential bowl bid, Penn State will make it clear that football remains a key part of the university, even during its darkest hour.

The bottom line is that it takes a lot of guts to take over at Penn State right now. Bradley has faced numerous tests over the past week and has passed every one of them with flying colors.

He admitted his future is unclear, but Penn State would be crazy to let the program switch hands again if Bradley continues to show such tremendous leadership.

Bradley is leading by example and doing a darn good job of it.
