Pacquiao vs. Mayweather: Both Sides Continue to Spar and Spurn Supermatch
The Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather saga is starting to turn into a fight between an old married couple driving across the country. They know that they belong together, but their egos are so massive that they can't help but beat the other down verbally.
The latest hurdle preventing the superfight that the sports world wants to see is Pacquiao's camp wanting a fourth fight with Juan Manuel Márquez and Mayweather's people exploring different options since Pac-Man does not sound interested in "Money" right now.
According to Dan Rafael of ESPN.com, two different people who work for Mayweather were told by Bob Arum—Pacquiao's promoter—that Pacquiao was not interested in pursuing a fight with Mayweather.
""(Mayweather's promoter Richard) Schaefer said the notification came in an email from retired federal judge Daniel Weinstein, the mediator who has worked closely with the sides to settle numerous lawsuits and issues in recent years.
--snip--
Schaefer said the plan was to use Weinstein to help them make the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight because he is trusted by both sides and intimately familiar with the problems between the rival promotional companies."
"
The constant back-and-forth between Pacquiao and Mayweather needs to stop. Both sides always talk like they are open to making a deal; but when push comes to shove, nothing ever happens.
That isn't fair to boxing, which desperately needs the fight to happen, or to the fans, who have been impatiently waiting this fight to happen for the last three years.
There is no innocent party in this stupid mess, either. Both Pacquiao and Mayweather share the blame for this fight not happening, and all that they are doing is playing games with each other.
At this point, it is would be stupid to expect these two sides to come together to make this fight happen. Both Pacquiao and Mayweather are still going to make a ton of money regardless of who they fight, and because they detest each other personally, they have no reason to make the fight happen.
Until they do, fans can hope that Pacquiao and Mayweather come together to make something happen. But to expect anything from either party would be a waste of time.
If memory serves me correctly, Green Day sang the song, "Wake Me Up When September Ends." Well, wake me up when Mayweather and Pacquiao are actually scheduled to fight. Until that happens, don't talk about it possibly happening because there is no point anymore.
