NFL Power Rankings: Gauging the League's Most Unpredictable Teams

Chris TrapassoNov 15, 2011

We have been treated to a season of unpredictability in the NFL

The Bills beat the Patriots. The Cardinals beat the Eagles as two touchdown underdogs. The Jaguars beat the Ravens. The Rams beat the Saints...the list goes on.

Through nine games, these are the most unpredictable teams I've witnessed this year.

Great one week, putrid the next. Then great again.

Baltimore Ravens

What is this team's deal?

They beat the Steelers, then they totally flop on the road.

Joe Flacco is a good quarterback, but he has displayed little consistency this season. Ray Rice needs to get more than the five carries he received against the Seahawks on Sunday.

They have a solid defense, but their offense seems completely hung over after big wins.

The Bengals come to town this weekend.

Are we going to see a dynamic big-play offense featuring Anquan Boldin and Torrey Smith that gets production on the ground from Rice?

Or a team that turns the ball over at the most inopportune times?

New York Jets

I'm not condemning them after losing to the Patriots at home—New England's still a tough team.

It's how they lost that resurrected some memories for Jets fans.

Mark Sanchez was totally flustered all evening and his usually stout offensive line couldn't protect him.

He finished the game with a 64.7 QB rating against the worst defense in football.

What was up with Darrelle Revis?

They aren't a bad team, I just don't know what I'm going to get each Sunday.

Detroit Lions

We know that Calvin Johnson is going to be a nightmare matchup every time out. What we don't know is how Matthew Stafford is going to play. He was totally out of rhythm against the Bears last week and the Lions had plenty of time to prepare, coming off their bye.

The defense can look ferocious one week, then they don't make the big play the following week.

Will Detroit still sneak into the playoffs?

Stafford must be more consistent.
