NFL Power Rankings Week 11: Identifying the Most Disappointing Teams

John RozumNov 15, 2011

The only good thing that comes out of being a disappointing team one year, is that there's added motivation to perform the following year.

And instead of dealing with pressure, those teams are pitted as underdogs, which only adds more wood to the fire. That being said, the following four franchises have been anything but impressive in 2011.

So, here are the four most disappointing teams heading into Week 11.

13. New York Jets (5-4)

1 of 4

To say that the Jets have had a roller-coaster type season wouldn't do enough justice to roller-coasters, because roller-coasters are amazing.

And in sports, roller-coaster are anything but. As for the Jets, they began 2-0, dropped three straight, won three straight and fell back once again in Week 10.

Inside the trenches is perhaps what's most confusing, because running the ball and stopping the run is something Rex Ryan has prided his team on the past two seasons, otherwise we're not seeing the Jets make two runs as the No. 6 seed.

Obviously the pass defense is stellar and rightfully so, but who's going to bother playing the Jets with a pass-heavy attack unless they want to lose? And although the remaining schedule can fly either way, New York needs to do a self-evaluation.

With games at Denver, versus Buffalo, at Washington, the next three weeks, the Jets are capable of winning and losing each of those games. New York hasn't been good enough to look at and say all three are definitive victories.

Sure the playoffs are still alive, but the AFC East will be lucky to earn a wild-card spot this season other than the division champion.

19. Philadelphia Eagles (3-6)

2 of 4

If you look up the word "disappointing" whenever the new dictionaries are released, it would not be surprising to see a picture of the Eagles' logo next to it.

And to say 2011 has been disappointing for Philadelphia fans, well, that's about as nice as you be. With all the Eagles offseason signings they were dubbed the paper champions, however, all appears to be for naught and just one more loss dooms this season.

Now, it's not to say that Philly can't run off seven straight and finish 10-6, but that's unlikely after losing at home to Arizona.

What's even more interesting though, this Eagles team has gotten more effort from every opponent this season because everyone wanted to knock off the "eventual champions." For a team who's not coming off a Super Bowl win, you would have thought that Philly brought home The Lombardi Trophy in 2010.

That said, it's not like the Eagles are playing horrendous football either. They rank in the top 10 in rush and pass offense, No. 11 in pass and No. 17 in rush defense.

Nonetheless, it's been a season of anything but false hope in The City of Brotherly Love, so maybe next year Philly.

24. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-5)

3 of 4

Despite going 10-6 in 2010, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers missed out on the postseason and watched another 10-6 franchise (Green Bay) win the Super Bowl.

Now 2010 was a step in the right direction for Tampa, because 2009 was a dismal 3-13. So a seven-game turnaround in one year is quite impressive. Unfortunately however, 2011 has not been good to them.

Just once in their past five games have they scored over 20 points (in home win versus Saints) and the defense ranks No. 28 and No. 29 against the pass and rush, respectively. Additionally, the rush offense ranks just No. 25 in averaging 97 yards per game.

So from an all-encompassed perspective, the Buccaneers have significantly underachieved despite all their youth and potential. Then again, it doesn't help being in a division where the Saints and Falcons are NFC playoff contenders each year.

Perhaps what's hurting Tampa the most though, is their inability to win outside of The Sombrero. Only once have they done that in four tries this season and five of their last seven games are on the road.

Hence, fail.

25. Seattle Seahawks (3-6)

4 of 4

We can say all the arguments in terms of how weak the NFC West is, but even though they only won it at 7-9 in 2010, Seattle managed to upset the defending Super Bowl champion Saints in the wild-card round.

So it's safe to say that there was much hope for even a better season in The Great Northwest in 2011. Well unfortunately, that has not been the case and the Seahawks are a disappointing 3-6. Now count DB Marcus Trufant's injury and not re-signing LB Lofa Tatupu, and for as respectable as the defense is playing, they would be so much better.

Offensively, their two QBs consist of Tarvaris Jackson and Charlie Whitehurst-we'll just leave it at that.

And with the acquisitions of TE Zach Miller and OL Robert Gallery from Oakland you would think that offense would be a little better, but such is not the case.

Now, Seattle could potentially finish around 6-10 at best, which isn't a complete failure after losing games to teams like Cleveland, but they have had a rather difficult schedule outside of St. Louis and Arizona.

That in mind, 2012 could be better than most expect for the Seahawks.
