Pacquiao vs Marquez 3: Floyd Mayweather Gained Most from Fight

Alex KayNov 15, 2011

Manny Pacquiao was not the biggest winner on Saturday night after barely overcoming Juan Manuel Marquez in Las Vegas.

Floyd Mayweather actually gained the most from the narrow and debatable decision from the judges after the fight.

You may remember the “2009 Fight of the Year” in which Mayweather totally dominated Marquez and earned a unanimous decision in the same building that Marquez just lost to Pacquiao in by the skin of his teeth.

Mayweather and Marquez both have a very similar style and obviously Pacquiao has a problem stopping it.

Despite all the talk about how Pac-Man was going to dominate Marquez with new combo moves and his old, trusty and devastating left, the challenger dominated the fight (and only lost the decision because Pacquiao narrowly won a few more rounds than Marquez completely dominated) and forced his Filipino opponent into abandoning his plan.

If Marquez was able to do this to Pacquiao, imagine just how bad Mayweather would beat him.

Mayweather is a bigger, stronger and faster boxer and employs a ridiculously accurate and deadly counter-attack whenever a fighter like Pac-Man wildly attacks him.

Will the two ever get in the ring to actually prove this theory?

Right now, according to Michael Woods of ESPN, the fight could not be further from coming together.

He said,

“Team Mayweather wants to do Mayweather-Pacquiao on May 5, and with Pacquiao promoter Bob Arum's seeming disinterest in pursuing negotiations for that megafight. Arum indicated to Rafael that he's inclined to set up Pacquiao-Juan Manuel Marquez IV rather than what many have referred to as the Super Bowl of boxing.”

That would be absolutely horrendous if we had to see a fourth Pacquiao-Marquez bout rather than the fight everyone is dying to see.

Hopefully, Arum comes to his senses and we can see this historic battle take place while both boxers are still in their prime.
