5 Fights We Would Love to See If There Were No Weight Classes
Ever think back to those days when MMA first started? Remember the times where you could wear, and pretty much do, anything in the cage? There were no weight classes or many rules, just guys fighting each other with different styles to see who was the best.
This handful of fights are ones that fans would love to see, but because of weight classes, we won't be seeing any time soon.

No. 5: Daniel Cormier vs. Chael Sonnen
1 of 5Two great fighters with heavy wrestling pedigrees. Chael has time and time again shown his dominance on the ground, but Cormier is no slouch on the mat. Coming from his own background of wrestling, he poses a ground problem for anyone.
Chael Sonnen has the means of getting in his opponents head though, and mix that with his own strength, and you end up with a fighter who can win on any given night against anyone.
No. 4: Brock Lesnar vs. Georges St. Pierre
2 of 5Who better to put in front of a behemoth like Brock than another great wrestler in MMA? GSP is smaller, but has a great takedown ability and has the strength to follow through.
The intrigue of this fight comes from the styles of the fighters. GSP has no wrestling background, but is considered one of the greatest wrestlers in the sport right now. Brock has a smorgasbord of accomplishments in his wrestling pedigree, however. GSP’s striking is crisp and fast, but hasn’t given him the opportunity to finish anyone recently. Brock has a questionable chin, but is still very fast for a heavyweight.
No. 3: Anderson Silva vs. Dominick Cruz
3 of 5Two words; Head movement. These two men have shown their great abilities to duck and dodge and attack from different angles. With Cruz being much smaller and quicker, it would be interesting to see how his hands would do against Silva.
Silva, on the other hand, would have a great size advantage, and can keep his distance well. His unorthodox strikes and unusual behavior can throw guys off sometimes. Both Cruz and Silva are enigmas for anyone that steps in front of them, but stylistically, it would be interesting to watch. This is why the upcoming Jones vs. Machida fight is very similarly exciting.
No. 2: Roy Nelson vs. Demetrious Johnson
4 of 5This is a fight where some would say the size would matter, and others would say it wouldn’t. Roy Nelson’s size would likely be the victor if he could get Johnson on the ground, but he has to catch him first. Nelson seems to have lost some weight these past months, but still poses a large threat to Johnson.
The stamina would be astronomically greater for Demetrious, giving him the edge as the fight progressed. However, if Nelson can get into the crucifix, Herb Dean might have to end it before any tap could take place.
No. 1: Demetrious Johnson vs. Stefan Struve
5 of 5The size difference alone is enough to sell a decent PPV. Having the tallest and shortest guy go at it is a concept that makes fans curious how such a match would play out. Obviously, Struve would have the reach advantage. But Demetrious is a fast guy, and like many in his weight class, has tons of stamina.
The aggression in the cage would probably go to Struve, but the intrigue comes from where the fight would take place. If the fight went to the ground, who would win? Would Struve’s long limbs prevent him from securing submissions? Would Demetrious be small enough to escape, or would there be too much weight on him?
Imagine this; either one gets the full mount in this fight. How would either situation play out?
One can almost envision Demetrious scrambling up Struve and locking in a rear naked choke, almost acting like Yoda, or a backpack.
There are many scenarios that could be played out from this, but regardless, it would be a fight MMA fans wouldn’t want to miss!
