NFL Power Rankings: 3 Teams That Are Falling Fastest

John RozumNov 14, 2011

Unless it's stopped within the next week or two, the following three teams are on a path to nowhere but sitting home this postseason. All three are still playoff contenders but recently, their odds have decreased.

That said, here are the franchises falling fast heading into Week 11.

Detroit Lions (6-3)

It's gut-check time for the Detroit Lions. They're just 1-3 in the last four games (lone win over Denver) and have not scored over 20 points in any of the three losses. Also, even though the Lions should get a cake win over Carolina this week, they still have the Packers (twice), New Orleans and Oakland remaining on the schedule.

Therefore, the Motor City will be fortunate to finish 10-6 because right now 9-7 and missing the playoffs is the more realistic outcome. And after getting demolished by the Bears, that puts Detroit's record 1-2 against teams with a winning record this season.

So unless the Lions can revert back to their Weeks 1-5 ways, Detroit will relive 2007 all over again after such a great start.

Cincinnati Bengals (6-3)

It's not so much that Cincinnati isn't a good team, they're just subject to being an inexperienced team in a difficult division. We saw yesterday that they're not quite ready yet to contend for a division title but at the same token, the Bengals aren't too far off either.

With games against Baltimore (twice), at Pittsburgh and versus Houston, Cincinnati still has a chance to prove they're worthy of being considered playoff contenders. However, right now we're looking at just a 9-7 record unless Cincy plays above and beyond their potential.

The defense may be stout; however, the offense has a lot of ground to make up being ranked No. 23 in passing and No. 20 in rushing.

Buffalo Bills (5-4)

The Bills started out 3-0 but are just 2-4 since, and have dropped to third place in the AFC East at 5-4. Buffalo's on a two-game losing streak, is playing at Dallas and New York (Jets) the next two weeks and has not won a road game since Week 1 over Kansas City.

And based on how they played at Dallas and versus the Jets the past two weeks, the Bills will be fortunate to finish 8-8; however, still very disappointing after such a great start. The defense has proven to be the weakest link, as its' No. 27 and No. 23 rankings against the pass and rush have doomed them.

You can't live off forcing turnovers, and when playing potent offenses like Dallas, giving up a bunch of points will happen. The Bills are on extremely thin ice and unless they can get a big response win in Week 11, the season will have been lost before the final stretch commences.
