Manny Pacquiao: How a Victory over Mayweather Will Erase Marquez Decision
There was a huge outcry after Manny Pacquiao beat Juan Manuel Marquez, and the only way Pac-Man can get past the public backlash is by beating one of the best boxers around.
If a Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight ever happens, Pacquiao must win in order to save his career after what took place this past weekend.
The most anticipated fight of 2011 did not disappoint, except for the ending. Pacquiao won on a controversial decision after 12 intense rounds against Marquez.
This marks the second time these two fought and the ending was very debatable. It brought upon a number of questions about whether boxing was rigged for Pacquiao to win.
After all, a Pacquiao loss wouldn't likely lead to what boxing fans live for, a fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather.
You have to credit Marquez, who as a huge underdog, battled Pacquiao to the end. This is the third time these two fought each other, and Marquez knew he had to have this win for his career.
Marquez was rolling the whole match, but a lackluster effort in the 12th round proved to be the difference maker. He was told he was ahead, but it shouldn't have mattered to him, he should have finished Pacquiao off, but it didn't happen.
Many thought it wouldn't matter and he would still pull the huge upset over Marquez, but that didn't happen. Marquez told told Dan Rafael of ESPN that he knows he was robbed once again.
""This is the second robbery of the two that we had, and I think this was even more clear than the first," Marquez said. "We won with the clearer punches. The audience protested because they saw us win again. I thought I got robbed. It happens again and again. I don't know what else I can do to win."
"
No doubt it's a tough loss for Marquez, but he has to deal with it and move on. It's out of his hands right now, but a good deal of the boxing world is likely to side with him this time around.
Even though Pacquiao may receive grief from some of the public over this fight, it can all be forgotten if he ever fights Mayweather.
If those two ever fought, it would please boxing fans so much that they would forget both boxers transgressions.
The boxing world has been dreaming about Pacquiao vs. Mayweather for years now, but as time goes by it decreases the chances that they will ever fight.
Some are astounded by what happened over the weekend, and others couldn't care less, as the only thing they want is a fight between Pac-Man and Pretty Boy Floyd.
It remains to be seen if they ever will square off inside the ring, but one thing is for sure, all boxing fans would look past Pacquiao's questionable win over Marquez if he were to hand Mayweather his first loss.
