BCS Rankings: Teams That Will Burst into Top 25

Richard LangfordNov 13, 2011

The West Virginia Mountaineers are ready to mine their way into the top 25. They aren't the only team that will be making their first appearance in the top 25 in Week 13.

West Virginia

The Mountaineers are coming off of their biggest win of the season. They beat conference leader Cincinnati 24-21 in dramatic fashion.

This was the Bearcats' first conference loss of the season, and it pulled WVU one game within the conference lead.

West Virginia is led by a high powered offense. They are 16th in the nation in points scored per game. This should power them past Pitt in their next game.

Pitt is ranked 41st in points allowed per game. It will also propel them to a victory in their regular season closer against a South Florida team that is just 1-4 in conference play and ranked 40th in points allowed per contest.

The win against Pitt may be enough to get the Mountaineers into the top 25. If it isn't, the win against South Florida certainly will be.

Tulsa

Tulsa is on the cusp of a top-25 ranking. It has been a long road back for them after they started off the season 1-3.

They have since won six straight games, and even their three losses should serve to help them. Those losses were against Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Boise State.

Tulsa has a game with UTEP this week. They will handle a UTEP team that is ranked in the 60s in both points scored and allowed per contest.

Depending on how the teams in front of them fare, this will likely land them into the top 25. That will also set up a huge showdown with undefeated Houston.

This should be a great game. Houston has the edge in all statistical categories; however, they haven't played anywhere near the same level of competition as Tulsa.

A win in this game will propel well into the top 25, and it will lead them to a much more attractive bowl game than their current projections.
