Pacquiao vs. Marquez 3: Unavoidable Fourth Bout Will KO Floyd Mayweather Fight

Patrick ClarkeNov 13, 2011

The ultra-competitive 12 rounds that both Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez survived Saturday night in Las Vegas will kill any chances of Pacquiao touching gloves with Floyd Mayweather, Jr. next May.

Pacquiao's promoter, Bob Arum, said after the hotly-contested title bout that a fourth matchup between the scrappy welterweights is necessary to decide boxing dominance.

"I'm bound and determined to have these two fight once and for all in a decisive fight, I had Manny winning this fight, some people - particularly Mexicans - had Marquez ahead. I'll speak to Manny and Juan Manuel, and maybe we'll do it again in May. It was great for boxing and if we do it again it's going to set all monetary records for pay-per-view." - Bob Arum on Pacquiao's Nov. 12 title fight against Marquez.

"

Although a rematch between Pacquiao and Marquez would be another can't-miss battle, the fight everyone on the planet wants to see would be the cost.

Just when Mayweather's camp has finally softened up on their stubborn stance and opened up about possibly fighting the "little fella," an epic boxing rivalry breaks out. Who would have guessed?

Now that's not to say that Pacquiao-Marquez IIII wouldn't be a brilliant matchup, but never in a million years would one have believed that Saturday night's fight would have captivated the way it did.

Pacquiao was challenged the way we would have expected to see against Mayweather; keyword there being expected.

The two top pound-for-pound boxers in the world have yet to meet despite years of hype and dominance in the declining sport.

It's unfortunate that Pacquiao couldn't put away Marquez early, or even win a less controversial decision, because then, the hope for a super fight would be as great as ever.

Marquez's pride and desire Saturday night no doubt birthed a rematch against Pacquiao. The two will wind up meeting for the fourth time in eight years next spring in Vegas; just you watch.

The result will be the sad death of the one fight the world needed to see.
