Manny Pacquiao: How Much Longer Will Shaky Pac-Man Fight?

Manny Pacquiao may have been declared the winner in Round 3 against Juan Manuel Marquez, but deep down Pac-Man knows that he should not have won the fight.

There are whispers that the fight is going to go under investigation and I hope they do. The 38-year-old Marquez was the better fighter on Saturday night.

Part of it was because of the style of Marquez, but it was clear that Pacquiao was not sharp. Much has been made about how great of shape Pac-Man was in, how he had trained harder for this fight than any previous one in his illustrious career.

Whatever he did, it certainly didn’t show up during the fight. He seemed tentative at times and was surprisingly slow to react when Marquez was throwing counter after counter. Even though he already had 24 rounds in the ring with him, he didn’t seem fully prepared for what Marquez was throwing at him.

It makes you wonder how focused he was for the match. Did he put in the film study and mental energy necessary? Marquez knew exactly what Pacquiao was going to do and had a strong counter for it. Pacquiao looked like he was in a street fight at times.

Is the lack of mental preparation due to his incredibly long list of tasks he has on his plate? He is a member of the Philippines congress and is now getting into the entertainment industry as a singer and actor.

He is spreading himself thin and is forgetting what made him famous in the first place. There will be plenty of time to show off his other talents when he is retired. Right now the 32-year-old needs to focus strictly on boxing. He only has three to five years left of top-notch quickness and speed in him, so he should use it!

Pacquiao needs to take a long hard look at what his priorities are right now and put certain things on the back burner. As a boxing fan, I selfishly want him to completely focus on the sport. On the other hand, I understand if he’d rather help his own country out than get bloody in front of millions of people.

Whatever he decides, I hope he commits one way or another. If he continues to keep stretching himself so thin, this potential Floyd Mayweather fight will be a colossal disappointment.
