Bowl Projections: How Oregon Will Shock the World and Make It to BCS Title Game

Oregon is the No. 1 team that you should keep an eye on from here on out. They are the best team in college football that isn’t named LSU. Oregon will shock the world by making it to back-to-back BCS National Championship games when the final BCS rankings come out.

For Oregon to make it back to the title game a few things need to happen. Oklahoma State needs to lose one of their two remaining games. They play at Iowa State and home to Oklahoma.

Defeating the Cyclones will probably happen, but circle the Oklahoma game. The Sooners struggle when they are the favorite, but excel when they are the underdog. Bob Stoops will have his team mentally and physically prepared for a war. He will find a way to stop Brandon Weeden and the lethal Oklahoma State offense causing the door to be BCS National Championship to be wide open.

With the Cowboys out of the picture (assuming they lose) Oregon would be ahead of Alabama in my estimation because they lost to LSU on a neutral field while Alabama lost at home. Losing at home should be deemed unacceptable by any team that is making a case for the national title game.

The Ducks have the best chance of any one-loss team to make the BCS National Championship game. Their only loss of the season was against LSU at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, 40-27.

They are the only team to score more than 21 points on the Tigers in 2011. If it wasn’t for four mistakes, Oregon would have been not only in the game but easily could have won.

LSU held the Ducks to 95 rushing yards total. That is 200 yards less than their season average. LSU held them to 19 points less than what the Ducks average on the season.

I would bet anything that they couldn’t do it twice in a row. Oregon’s offense is just too talented, and they are hitting their stride at the appropriate time.

Oregon is a completely different team at this stage of the season. They have won nine games in a row by more than 14 points including a thrashing at Stanford Stadium against No. 4 Stanford.

They are benefitting from losing in Week 1 of the college football season. Teams that lose early have a much better opportunity to make the championship game than teams that lose late. It gives them more chances to chip away at the rankings week-after-week. Oregon has done that, and they are getting better every game.

Oregon is the real deal. They have the experience of playing in the BCS Championship game last year, they have the coaching and they have the talent to keep up with LSU. If any team can match up against LSU speed and talent wise it is the Ducks. They will shock the world and make it back to the BCS Championship game with another opportunity of being called the champion.
