BCS Rankings: BCS Top 25 Contenders and Pretenders
The BCS is coming down to the wire with just a few weeks left in the season and we have seen a bunch of thrilling games that have affected the National Championship race.
Boise State fell once again thanks to a missed field goal and Stanford got exposed against the speed Oregon Ducks. Will there be more dominoes to fall or are the upsets over with?
So, which teams are the pretenders and contenders in the BCS hunt race?
Boise State Broncos
1 of 6Pretender
The Boise State Broncos fell to TCU, Kellen Moore's third loss of his career. He is now 1-2 all-time against the Horned Frogs. It came down to a field goal and once again the Broncos BCS dreams went wide right.
Though Doug Martin and Billy Winn did not play, the Broncos had nobody to blame but themselves. They received some help from the officials on a pass interference call than was questionable, but it did not matter. The Broncos pass defense was the biggest issue.
If you call yourself a BCS team then you cannot allow nearly 500 yards passing in a game where it matters the most.
Oregon Ducks
2 of 6Contender
The Ducks have an outside chance at making the BCS National Championship if they were to run the table and have either LSU or Alabama lose. There is a safe assumption that an SEC team will be playing in the BCS National Championship.
If Oklahoma State were to lose, the Ducks would have a solid shot at getting a rematch with an SEC team in the title.
Oklahoma Sooners
3 of 6Contender
The Sooners will have a chance to stun the second ranked Cowboys at Bedlam. If they do, then they could have a legit shot at playing in the BCS National Championship.
Stanford Cardinal
4 of 6Pretender
Not only were they exposed, but their speed was flat out atrocious against the Ducks. Andrew Luck made two huge turnovers and they never had any consistency in the ground game.
They have no shot at the BCS National Championship, but they can still make a BCS Bowl if they were to knock out Cal and Notre Dame.
Clemson Tigers
5 of 6Pretender
The Tigers are not only a pretender to play in the BCS National Championship, but also to play in a BCS Bowl. Their defense has struggled plus the Virginia Tech Hokies are catching fire.
Houston Cougars
6 of 6Contenders
The Cougars are huge contenders for the BCS though they have almost no shot at playing in the BCS National Championship.
Houston can still play in the Fiesta or Sugar Bowl if they run the table. Tulsa will be a challenge and Southern Miss in the conference championship will not be a walk in the park.
