BCS Bowl Projections: Path to LSU vs. Alabama Rematch Is Clearing

Richard LangfordNov 13, 2011

Only Oklahoma State stands in the way of a LSU vs. Alabama rematch. This much became undeniably clear after Week 11.

What Happened in Week 11

Alabama and LSU both took care of their business. LSU beat Western Kentucky 42-9 while Alabama handled Mississippi State, 24-7.

Just as importantly was the fact that previously undefeated Stanford fell to Oregon, 53-30.

Previously undefeated Boise State also fell. They lost to TCU, 36-35. Alabama was already ranked ahead of Boise State, but this loss means that any hope they had of sliding in ahead of Alabama is gone.

That leaves only Oklahoma State as the lone undefeated standing in the way of Alabama.

Looking Ahead

Oklahoma State will play Iowa State next. They will easily handle Iowa State. Their next game will not be so easy. They will host rival Oklahoma.

LSU has a tough game remaining against Arkansas and then the SEC championship game. They will be able to handle both of these games.

Arkansas has been winning with offense, and that is no way to beat LSU.

The same can be said for Alabama's only tough remaining matchup against Auburn. Auburn does not have a defense that can stop Alabama, and they will not be able to move the ball on the Tide.

Conclusion

The Oklahoma State is the game that will likely decide the National Championship matchup. If Oklahoma State wins, they will go. If they lose, they won't.

Alabama has the strength of schedule that will dictate they are at the front of the line of teams with one loss.

They will be right their waiting to leap frog Oklahoma State should they lose.
