BCS Rankings: Oregon Ducks Will Be Robbed of National Title

Luis BatlleNov 13, 2011

The LSU Tigers are a great football team. So are No. 2 Oklahoma State and No. 3 Alabama. Yet at the end of the day it is the Oregon Ducks that will be robbed of a national title.

For one, top to bottom, the No. 7 team in the nation easily boasts the most talented offense in all of college football. Yes, a more talented and more dynamic offense than that of the Oklahoma State Cowboys.

Since the 40-27 loss to LSU to open up the season, the Ducks have been unstoppable offensively. Yet to lose a game since, Oregon has scored at least 40 points in eight of its last nine games, and over 50 on four separate occasions.

Talk about some points.

The other key factor has been the play of starting running back LaMichael James, a talent who currently ranks No. 6 in the nation with 1,207 yards, while also picking up 12 touchdowns on the season. This comes after being sidelined for two games, as he is easily the top rusher in all of college football if had played those two games.

What makes the numbers all the more impressive? He has been red hot lately, putting up 302 yards and a whopping four touchdowns in his last two outings against Stanford and Washington on the road.

This season, junior quarterback Darron Thomas has been equally as impressive, throwing for over 1,700 yards and 22 touchdowns, while also rushing for 131 yards and two touchdowns.

The other point that makes most, including myself, quiver, is the simple fact that this team is 9-1, is yet to lose a game since losing to No. 1 LSU and has absolutely no chance at competing for a BCS title game. Alabama lost to LSU one week ago for their only loss of the season, yet that only bumps them to No. 3 and still gives them the edge over Oregon?

It's simply a system that doesn't make sense.

And it's not just a dynamic offense that this team boasts; it's quite the solid defense as well. In 10 games this season, the team has allowed just under 22 points a contest, a mark good for No. 33 in the country. Twice in the last three road games the team has been able to hold opponents to 17 points or less.

Holding Stanford to no points in the opening quarter of their most recent win, this looks like an Oregon defense on the rise.

Despite the talent that teams like Alabama and Oklahoma State may possess, there is no question a team like the Ducks has been robbed of a chance at winning a national title. With such a complete offense and solid defense, and not having lost a game since their opener at LSU, there is no question James and company are more than capable of being the best team in the nation.
