UFC on FOX Results: 5 Things the UFC Could Improve On
UFC on FOX 1 was built up to be a historical event not on only for the UFC, but MMA as a whole.
Although the show was a major breakthrough for the sport, the UFC does have a few improvements to make for future shows on FOX.
Many fans may have complained about the Velasquez vs. dos Santos fight only lasting a little more than a minuet or the fact that only one fight was shown during the telecast.
But there are other improvements that Dana White and the people of FOX should consider while working on future shows.
Here's a list of what could improve the show even more.
Use Something Other Than the NFL Lead in Music
1 of 5FOX spared no expense in proving just how serious they were to making the UFC part of the the FOX Sports home.
This includes using the music that's usually associated with the NFL to bring in UFC on FOX from commercials.
Although it gave the show a feeling that this was something serious, after a while it could get annoying.
The UFC should and already has it's own music to go along with it's programming.
Maybe it's a personal preference, but it should stick to it's own music and leave the football trumpets to the NFL.
Bring in More Proven Fighters to Be Analyst
2 of 5Last night during the telecast, Brock Lesnar was brought on as one of the fight analysts.
It's understandable why Lesnar would be on the show.
He's MMA's biggest draw and could be facing the winner of the fight if he can get past Alistair Overeem in December.
For future telecasts though the UFC should stick with guys who have already been proven to be great fight analysts.
Fighters like Kenny Florian, Rashad Evans and even Chael Sonnen have been great on other shows like ESPN's MMA Live and would be great additions on FOX.
Show Some of History of MMA
3 of 5Although the first fight on FOX was just a teaser and the show only lasted an hour, it would have been nice to see a little more of the history of the sport added.
MMA was not always in the shape that it's in today.
Just looking at Royce Gracie fight Art Jimmerson shows just how far the sport has come.
Showing the videos of Velasquez and dos Santos leading up to the fight was good but knowing a little bit more of the sport's history may help people appreciate and see just why the UFC signing with FOX is a big deal.
Explain Some of the Rules of MMA a Bit More
4 of 5One of the things that will let newer fans of the sport follow MMA more is knowing what's going on.
As I sat watching the fight with my cousin, she was questioning why there was not a 10-count like there is in boxing.
Explaining just what happens during a fight and why would help new fans follow the fights and their outcomes a lot better.
Put More on the Station That Most People Have
5 of 5Many fans may complain about the Velasquez vs. dos Santos fight only going a minute and four seconds.
Hardcore fans knew that could happen though.
People may also complain about the fight being the only one on the telecast. Although it would have been great to see a fight like Ben Henderson vs. Clay Guida on TV, we also knew that this was not the traditional UFC card.
Where the UFC could have added more to the show was putting the preshow on FOX instead of Fuel TV.
It's understandable that not every event, special, or show will be featured on FOX next year.
But with a major event like this, every thing that the UFC was able to put out should have been featured on the channel they know more people will watch.
