Pacquiao vs. Mayweather: Money May Would Embarrass Pac-Man
Manny Pacquiao is no match for Floyd Mayweather. If that wasn't clear before, it is unavoidably obvious now. Watching Juan Marquez confound Manny Pacquiao on Saturday night told us everything we need to know about this potential super matchup.
What We Learned from Pacquiao vs. Marquez III
We learned that even though Manny Pacquiao has improved his right hand, he still can't outclass Marquez.
These two have fought for 36 rounds, and essentially every fight was a mirror image of each other. Marquez frustrates Pacquiao with his defense and does his damage counter punching.
Pacquiao makes hay with his dogged determination and stamina, but can't land any crippling blows on Marquez. Everyone, myself included, thought this fight would be different. Not only did Pac-Man have that improved right hand, but age should have taken more of a toll on Marquez than it did on Pac-Man given that Juan is 38 and Manny 32.
Instead, it was Manny who looked like the fighter who had slowed.
Why Mayweather Would Destroy Pacquiao
They say correctly that boxing is all about styles. You can't judge a fighter in one fight and necessarily make conclusions about how they would perform in another fight.
However, there is plenty to be learned. And we have learned that Manny Pacquiao struggles with counter punchers. We also know that there is no better counter puncher than Mayweather.
Money is one of the best defensive fighters and counter punchers the sport has ever seen. Pacquiao would have a hard time landing any shots on Mayweather. More often than not, he would be leaving himself open to get hit rather than doing the hitting.
Prediction
If this fight ever happens, and it happens before both fighters' styles have eroded with age, Money would win easily in a decision.
Pacquiao is not going to get knocked out, but he isn't going to find any success either. Mayweather's defense will leave Pac-Man confused and eventually desperate. And the more desperate he gets, the more vulnerable he will be to Mayweather's counter punches.
