UFC on Fox 1 Results: 5 Fights to Get Clay Guida Back on Track
On Saturday night, Clay Guida had his shot at the No. 1 contender position against Benson Henderson.
He lost a unanimous decision, and with that, his four fight winning streak was kaput.
Guida was his usual self, as he pushed the pace and gave it everything he had, but it just wasn't enough to deal with the former WEC lightweight champion.
Guida will look to rebound and start another title run, so here are five fights to get him back on track.
Melvin Guillard
1 of 5Melvin Guillard recently lost to Joe Lauzon at UFC 136 via rear-naked choke in only 47 seconds.
This matchup would be interesting for a few reasons.
How good is Guillard's takedown defense?
How strong is Guida's chin?
It's a striker vs. grappler matchup to see who remains relevant in the stacked lightweight division.
Dennis Siver
2 of 5Another fighter coming off a quick loss, Dennis Siver lost via rear-naked choke at UFC 137 at the hands of Donald Cerrone.
Siver was on a four fight winning streak before the fight, including wins over Matt Wiman and George Sotiropoulos.
This would be another striker vs. grappler matchup, and would answer a lot of questions about both fighters.
Gilbert Melendez
3 of 5This would be a rematch of a fight these two had at Strikeforce: Revenge in 2006 with the lightweight title on the line.
Guida lost the title via split decision, and a rematch would be absolute fireworks.
Not only that, but it would be an easy sell, as it would be a rematch of their title fight, and with a win, Melendez would likely get a title shot.
Kenny Florian
4 of 5One of the most realistic options would be a rematch with Kenny Florian.
These two first met at UFC 107, and Florian won via second round rear-naked choke.
After this loss, Guida started his four fight win streak, and improved significantly over that time.
Florian is making his return to lightweight sometime in 2012, and Florian will be looking to return to the top of the division, and Guida will be looking to keep himself established as a top contender.
This fight would give both fighters what they need—well, if they win of course.
Jim Miller
5 of 5This is the fight that I would most expect to happen, as both fighters lost to Ben Henderson when a title shot was on the line.
Miller and Guida are both top five fighters in the division, and they'll be looking to remain at the top with a win.
Additionally, a win after this fight would likely put them right back in line for a shot at the title.
Both are relentless competitors, and this has fight of the night written all over it.
