BCS Rankings: Oregon Proves They Are Among Nation's Elite

Brian MaziqueNov 13, 2011

Oregon left no doubt, if Stanford was elite, then what are they? They smashed the Cardinal and their Heisman favorite, Andrew Luck. In a victory as decisive as Junior dos Santos' demolition of Cain Velasquez, the Ducks showed they are the class of the Pac-12.

The elite status does not end there. I have a hard time placing them anywhere below fourth in my rankings. Here is my thought process behind each team ahead of the Ducks:

1. LSU

Obviously, the Tigers are the clear No. 1 team in the nation, not to mention they handed the Ducks their only loss. Coming off of their close defeat over then No. 2 Alabama in Tuscaloosa, they are top of the food chain.

2. Oklahoma State

Though doubts still remain about their defense, fact is, they have answered every challenge this season. They can solidify their spot in the BCS Title game with a win in Bedlam against the Sooners on December 3rd.

3. Alabama

This could be debated, Bama is a one-loss team just like Oregon. Their one loss came against the same team, but they lost at home. The Ducks dropped their game on a neutral field. The BCS system will likely put the Tide ahead of Oregon but I'm not sure that is fair.

Bama plays in a tougher conference, but, the head to head similarities and results are hard to ignore.

That is it, the Sooners nor any other one-loss team and certainly not Houston (the nation's other unbeaten) should be ahead of Oregon. The Ducks are gunning for a rematch with the Tigers.
