BCS Rankings: Oregon Ducks and Teams That Will Make Big Jumps

Tim DanielsNov 13, 2011

Several teams picked up key victories on the road to the BCS in Week 11 and will therefore make big jumps when the new BCS rankings are released Sunday night. With the regular season nearing its conclusion, there isn't much time left to make an impression on the voters like these three teams did.

Oregon Ducks

Oregon's offense got off to a sluggish start vs. Stanford, but its defense was able to keep Andrew Luck under wraps long enough for LaMichael James and Co. to pull away in the Pac 12's most important clash so far.

The Ducks are only two wins away from a trip to the Pac-12 Championship Game and both are at home. If they can win out, there is still an outside chance they could end up with a Week 1 rematch against LSU in the national title game.

Projected Ranking: No. 4

Virginia Tech Hokies

Virginia Tech picked up its first win against a ranked foe on Thursday. The Hokies went on the road and knocked off a dangerous Georgia Tech squad thanks to strong defense on third and fourth down, especially in the fourth quarter.

As long as they avoid disaster in their final two games, the Hokies are setting themselves up for a chance at revenge against Clemson in the ACC title game. Getting more consistency out of its offense will be the key to a Virginia Tech BCS run.

Projected Ranking: No. 7

Georgia Bulldogs

There might not be a more surprising turnaround in college football than Georgia. After opening the season with losses against Boise State and South Carolina they didn't appear to be a contender in the SEC, but the Bulldogs haven't lost since and sit atop the East Division.

Picking up a win over Auburn in convincing fashion illustrated that the bounce back wasn't a fluke aided by an easy schedule. Aaron Murray continues to improve at a rapid rate and will be one of the nation's top QBs heading into next season.

Assuming the Bulldogs take care of Kentucky, a game against LSU in the SEC title game will have a huge impact on the BCS race.

Projected Ranking: No. 12
