Pacquiao vs. Marquez 3: Still No Closure After Another Epic Battle

Brian MaziqueNov 13, 2011

This was like a discussion, meant to resolve a long dispute. In the end, it turned into another argument, that really resolved nothing. Manny Pacquiao won another close, but disputed decision over Juan Manuel Marquez. This time the specifics of victory was a majority decision.

Two judges gave the fight to Pacquiao, while the other had it a draw. Many people ringside felt Marquez had done enough to win, but, you have to claim the title, especially when you are the lesser in popularity.

Many people may hate that, but it is what it is. It has been that way for decades in the sport.
The moment Marquez's trainer told him he was winning, I knew he was in for an unpleasant surprise come decision time.

With the decision, there is still no definitive way to walk away from this series. Should they fight again? Marquez is 38 years old, it is getting to the point where you wonder how long he will be able to fight at this level. The last thing you want to see is for Pacquiao to claim a cheap win because Marquez aged too much to keep up.

This fight was also expected to springboard Pacquiao into a superfight with Mayweather. That may still happen, but Pacquiao will certainly answer questions about his less than dominant performance as that fight approaches.

Who is the better fighter, Pacquiao or Marquez? I guess it is Pacquiao, but I don't think anyone can say either man is superior with 100 percent confidence. That was something we all hoped we'd be able to claim.
