Pacquiao vs. Mayweather: Why Money Must Make Fight Happen

Manny Pacquiao has long been considered the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world.

He has a record of 54-3-2 and just scored a controversial victory by decision against Juan Manuel Marquez. 

The decision victory against Marquez was one that left the crowd at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas pretty angry, as they felt Marquez out-boxed Pac-Man. 

What does this all mean? It means Floyd “Money” Mayweather, Jr. needs to fight Pacquiao right now. 

Pacquiao hasn’t won by knockout in his last four fights and hasn’t been nearly as impressive as he was earlier in his career, when he had the meanest punch in boxing. 

Don’t get me wrong, Pacquiao is still one of the best fighters in the world. It just looks like he might be coming back down to earth a little bit after a hard-fought battle against Marquez. If he had that much trouble beating Marquez, he’s in for a rude awakening against Mayweather. 

Mayweather has never lost (42-0) and just scored a victory by knockout in his last fight against Victor Ortiz in September. 

Clearly, Mayweather is on top of his game, while Pacquiao might be falling off a little bit as he ages and takes on Hollywood and the political scene in the Philippines. 

Pacquiao is stretching himself too thin with all of his obligations and appearances. He’s probably not focusing on boxing quite as much as he used to when he was in the height of his career. 

So, Mayweather needs to step up to the plate, knowing he’s currently the better boxer, and agree to fight Pacquiao on Pacquiao’s terms. 

If he gives in to Pacquiao’s blood testing demands and still wins the fight, he’ll be considered the best fighter in the world, something he should definitely be striving for. 

And since he’s commonly seen as the one who doesn’t want this fight to happen, his image will receive a boost by agreeing to fight Pacquiao on Pacquiao’s terms. 

It’s in the best interest of Mayweather to make this fight happen before Pacquiao fights again and potentially loses. It’s only a matter of time before Pac-Man is no longer considered the best boxer in the world. 

Mayweather needs to make this fight happen when it’s still a chance for him to beat the man who is considered the best in the business.
