Cain Velasquez vs. dos Santos: Can JDS Become the Next MMA Star?
Last night the UFC made history by not only having its first show on FOX, but also crowning a new heavyweight champion.
Junior dos Santos only needed 64 seconds to knock Cain Velasquez out and capture the UFC heavyweight title.
The win puts dos Santos at a perfect 8-0 in the UFC (14-1 overall).
Dos Santos was well on his way to greatness before last night’s event.
The win and being featured on FOX gave dos Santos much needed exposure that he’ll need to become a major mainstream fighter.
In a world that’s run by stars like Jon Jones, Georges St-Pierre and Anderson Silva, Dos Santos is a mix between the three.
Much like Silva, dos Santos is a proud Brazilian fighter who is not afraid to smile and joke around.
Dos Santos is also one of the nicest and most humble people in the sport like St-Pierre appears to be.
Although he may not be as young as Jones, dos Santos is not even 30 yet and makes the top contenders that he fights look bad.
Dos Santos should be able to appeal to both the hardcore MMA fans as well as the new audience the FOX deal will bring in.
What makes dos Santos even more appealing is his fighting style.
Because of his superior boxing and knock out power, dos Santos has the ability to become one of the most dominant and exciting MMA fighters of all time.
Although it is too early to predict just how good he will become, dos Santos is a star in the making.
As long as he continues to be humble outside of the Octagon and knock people out inside of it, dos Santos will be one of the leading stars in MMA.
