Pacquiao vs. Marquez Results: Will We See a Fourth Fight?

Justin WeltonNov 13, 2011

With Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao taking years to set a date, a fourth fight with Juan Manuel Marquez may be in the books for Pac-Man.

It won’t happen, though. It shouldn’t happen, either.

Pac-Man definitely received Marquez’s best fight on Saturday night, and he doesn’t want to risk losing before his possible future fight with Mayweather.

The fight was great. I think we can all agree on that. It was so great that it almost messed up the future of boxing, though.

If Marquez would have won, people would have been screaming about Pac-Man not deserving the opportunity to fight Mayweather. He wouldn’t have been, either. Pac-Man getting a chance to fight Mayweather after losing? It wouldn’t have been right.

If boxing had their stars fight every two months then, sure, I would be all-in for a fourth fight.

But if we were to have another fight, it would mean that Mayweather-Pacquiao would get delayed even further. I’m tired of waiting. We have been waiting years to see the two best in the business go head to head.

Boxing needs Mayweather vs. Pacquiao, and it needs it now. As much as people like to rag on boxing, people still watched and people still cared about the past two fights. A future fight between these two would draw in millions upon millions of fans. It could possibly mean that the sport is back on track.

Forget about a fourth fight with Marquez, because he had several chances to defeat Pac-Man, and that story is becoming old.

Give the world what they want. Give them Mayweather vs. Pacquiao.
