Pacquiao vs. Marquez 3: Why Pac-Man Owes Dinamita a Fourth Fight
Manny Pacquiao was supposed to end his feud with Juan Manuel Marquez on Saturday night. He was supposed to dominate the fight and leave no doubt he was the better fighter.
Instead, after 12 incredibly close rounds and a controversial decision that went his way, there are more questions that need answers.
To be fair, Pacquiao had nothing to do with the decision and the fact that fans were throwing things in the ring after it was announced should be embarrassing.
But now the biggest question on everybody's mind is: where does Pacquiao go next? Does he give Marquez a fourth fight? Does he move on to his next task and lock horns with Floyd Mayweather? Or will he look somewhere else?
Let's start with the last question: No.There is nowhere else for Pacquiao to go besides Marquez or Mayweather.
Tim Bradley, who Bob Arum was grooming to fight Pacquiao at some point, had a terrible performance on the undercard last night even though he won.
Pacquiao actually addressed the first two questions last night right after the decision was announced.
Here is what Pacquiao and Arum said about another fight with Marquez (via the Los Angeles Times):
""I'm bound and determined to find a definitive winner from these two," said Top Rank Promoter Bob Arum. "If we can get both fighters to agree, we'll put it on May 5."
"
Arum said he asked Pacquiao if he won, and Pacquiao said, "Yes, it was clear. I blocked a lot of his punches.. If he wants a rematch, he'll get it."
When asked about a fight with Mayweather, Pacquiao said, "Let's get it on."
As much as we want to see that dream fight, Marquez clearly deserves one more fight with Pacquiao.
Marquez has been Pacquiao's equal for three fights, and even though the record books show Pacquiao has a 2-0-1 edge in the series, things have been much closer than that.
At some point Pacquiao and Mayweather will lock up—there is too much money at stake, but right now the right fight for Pacquiao is against Marquez. There has to be a clear winner, once and for all.
