Pacquiao vs. Marquez Highlights: Why Pac-Man Deserved Victory

Donald WoodNov 13, 2011

Manny Pacquiao deserved the decision victory on Saturday night, no matter what the fans at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas thought.

It was during Pacquiao’s fight with veteran Juan Manuel Marquez that Pac-Man was pushed to the limit like few other times in his illustrious career.

This was the third match in their careers where they faced each other, and just like the previous two bouts, this one ended in controversy.

Pac-Man deserved the win—controversy over.

As any hardcore boxing fan will tell you, if there is a very close fight, judges almost always lean toward the defending champion in those situations.

Marquez fought the perfect fight to compete with Pacquiao, but he wasn’t able to put him away, and Manny will always do enough to keep the scorecards close.

There have been enough title fights for Pacquiao that he knows as a round is going and in between rounds he can figure where he is sitting in the fight.

Every time Marquez caught Pac-Man with a stiff combination, Manny came rushing in and even the score.

That mentality never let Marquez gather a rhythm despite his ability to land shots on the WBO welterweight champion.

Both fighters kept the other uncomfortable, and that was the key for both men’s success at defending and lack of success pushing the tempo.

After watching the battle that took place in that ring, I almost want a fourth installment of this war as much as I want to see Manny Pacquiao fight Floyd Mayweather.
