Is Michael Vick or Andy Reid More to Blame for Philadelphia Eagles' Woes in 2011

Jon DoveNov 13, 2011

The Philadelphia Eagles' season has been a complete disaster as they are on the outside of the playoff race. Andy Reid and the Eagles front office spent a lot of money bringing in high-priced free agents who were expected to help this team contend for a Super Bowl.

Instead, this team has done nothing but disappoint.

On paper, this Eagles team appears to have the players capable of contending for a Super Bowl title. However, they have not been able to find any kind of rhythm.

The offense is led by the resurgent Michael Vick. Vick showed last season that he is capable of running a high-powered offense, making strides as a passer.

So far this season, Vick has made several big plays, but he has struggled to come up in big spots. For example, last week Vick and the Eagles offense had a chance to pull off a last-minute victory. However, the offense stalled and failed to win the game.

Reid has received a lot of criticism because he has been unable to put all the pieces together. Many feel that coaching is the biggest issue with this Eagles team. Reid’s offense has been producing, but the defense is really struggling.

These problems fall on the decision-making process of Reid. He decided to hire Juan Castillo as the defense of coordinator, even though his only coaching experience was as an offensive line coach.

I honestly feel that Vick is more to blame for the Eagles' struggles. He is playing decent football, but has not performed in the clutch. Reid and the offense have really evolved and have made the Eagles a team capable of running the football. This should have helped Vick become more of a complete quarterback.

The struggles of the Eagles can be placed at the feet of many people, but the quarterback needs to be the leader of the team.
