Pacquiao vs. Marquez Results: Will Controversial Outcome Force Investigation?
The judges say Manny Pacquiao did enough to beat Juan Manuel Marquez in the third installment of their trilogy.
As expected, the defeated Marquez thinks he was robbed.
He is not alone in this either.
The ringside scorecards read 116-112 Pac-Man, 115-113 Pac-Man and 114-114 draw.
The majority decision infuriated not only Marquez, but many of the fans present at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Bottles, cans and a chorus of boos were hoisted toward the ring in anger with the fight's outcome.
Needless to say, many have already thrown around the word "controversy" and are clamoring to understand the decision.
They don't have to look hard though.
Marquez did enough to not lose this fight; he never went out to win it.
Pacquiao was the aggressor while the Mexican veteran continued to fight backwards all night long sending counter punches any time Pac-Man tried to get inside.
The result was a less than one-percent difference in punch accuracy in favor of Marquez, but Pacquiao threw nearly 150 more punches and landed 17 more power punches.
The judges didn't see a different fight than the ones the crowd or pay-per-view audience saw, they simply realized that Pacquiao did more to win the fight.
Pac-Man was visibly disappointed in himself towards the end. We can certainly say that he didn't bring his best into the ring with him.
He spoke after the fight with confidence in the decision, but you could see a sense of relief wash over him.
That doesn't warrant the possible investigation we've heard may be launched though.
This is the second time the judges have handed Pacquiao a decision over Marquez and the second time Marquez thinks he was robbed.
The only thing an investigation will do is force Marquez to experience defeat all over again.
For the third time in as many fights these two fought an extremely close bout.
In the end it comes down to who went out to win the fight, and even without his best performance, that is Pacquiao every time.
