Pacquiao vs. Marquez Results: Marquez Displays Counter-Punching Ability in 2nd
One of the biggest reasons Juan Manuel Marquez has been perhaps Manny Pacquiao’s greatest challenge is because of his excellent counter-punching ability.
He showed that counter-punching ability in the second round of Saturday’s bout at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, hitting Pacquiao with some big shots and declaring this wasn’t going to be easy for the great Filipino.
With his added bulk, Marquez wasn’t going to be as fast in the third and final fight against his rival, but he was going to pack a bigger punch with his counter-punches, and that showed early on at the MGM Grand.
It was the start of what many considered could become the Fight of the Year after some disappointing title fights.
It was also the start of a back-and-forth that wouldn’t disappoint in the ring and show just how much Marquez could bring in the defining fight of his career.
For those expecting a quick KO victory for Pacquiao, it didn’t seem to be headed that way, but there was still the chance he could buckle Marquez’s knees with some big shots and make it a quick fight.
But each time he went in for the kill, Marquez would be there, like in the second round, to drop him back.
