Pacquiao vs. Marquez: Twitter Reacts to Controversial Pac-Man Victory

Richard LangfordNov 12, 2011

The Twitterverse is buzzing with reactions to yet another controversial ending for boxing. Manny Pacquiao took beat Juan Marquez in a decision. He won on two out of three scorecards. The third had it a draw.

It is becoming pretty clear that most people felt the decision went the wrong way.

While some had felt a draw would not have been an unreasonable decision, you would be hard-pressed to find anyone that felt it was as lopsided as at least one scorecard had it.

The fans at the arena were clearly not happy with the fight. Pacquiao was met with boos. Marquez was wildly cheered as he walked off, and many fans remained to clearly voice their displeasure with the outcome. Some, as is evident by this tweet, did more than voice their displeasure.

Beer wasn't the only object people were using to project their displeasure.

And there are many people that share the sentiment of this tweet.

This fight also raised doubts not just about the fairness of boxing, but of the skills of Manny Pacquiao.

And at least one person, and probably many more, are hoping that the vulnerability that Pacquiao showed will pave the way to a fight with Mayweather.

Conclusion

Watching the fight it certainly appeared that Marquez got the better of Pacquiao. He dominated the middle of this fight, and landed the biggest blows. But as this tweeter points out, it takes a little more to beat the champ.

Especially when that champ is the main cash cow for boxing. This decision will only fuel all the accusations and speculation that boxing is crooked.

While the outcome of this fight raised interest in a Marquez vs. Pacquiao IV it does irreparable harm to the long-term health of the sport.
