Pacquiao vs. Marquez Results: Marquez Makes Gamblers Sweat to the Final Bell

Eric BallNov 13, 2011

I hope you didn’t put money on Manny Pacquiao and have a heart condition.

The vast majority of gambling money was overflowing on Pac-man’s side. Even with 9-to-1 odds, everybody thought a Pac-man win was a guarantee over Juan Manuel Marquez.

They failed to remember how even the first two bouts were. That omission caused a lot of high blood pressure around the world.

Behind some of the best counter moves ever seen in the ring, Marquez should have won the fight. Every time Pacquiao would string together a nice combo, Marquez was able to step out of trouble and deliver a strong hook of his own.

People thought that being 38 years old would hurt Marquez. Instead, it has shown how smart and experienced he is in the ring. Nobody could have predicted how dominant he would be, not even the judges apparently.

When Pac-man was declared the winner, the crowd began to boo him very loudly. Yes, they booed the nicest, most gracious and polite fighter of all-time. It wasn’t because of anything Pacquiao did, rather it was what he didn’t do. He didn’t fight like the undisputed champion. He didn’t land any huge hooks of any significance.

He didn’t really do much of anything quite honestly.

Yet in the end, all of the money on Pacquiao was awarded and the majority of gamblers go to sleep with a heavier wallet...whether they deserve it or not.
