Pacquiao vs. Marquez: Pac-Man's Flashiness Leads to Controversial Decision

Manny Pacquiao defeated Juan Marquez in yet another controversial bout, and his flashy style was the key to victory.

In close fights with plenty of even exchanges, the tendency is to give the round to the more exciting fighter. And between these two, that is undoubtedly Pacquiao.

Personally, I think Marquez won this fight. The first four rounds could have gone either way, but he definitely won rounds five through seven.

The eighth, ninth and 10th were close, but I would have given them to Marquez. And Pac-Man won the last two, but certainly not by a wide margin.

So, clearly the judges favored Pacquiao in most of the first four rounds. That comes down to two things: the judges expected him to win, and they were impressed with his aggression.

It's no secret that Pac-Man was the heavy favorite coming in, and the judges are human. It would be impossible for them not to have a pre-fight opinion. If they were expecting Pacquiao to win, or perhaps dominate, then they would likely favor him in those close early rounds.

Pacquiao also got major points because he was the aggressor. Although Marquez was landing harder shots, most of them came as he was backpedaling. He is a true master with the counter punch, but the guys with the scorecards like to reward the fighter that keeps moving forward.

The two fighters have contrasting styles, and Pacquiao's just happens to be more judge-friendly. Due to pre-fight perceptions and his flashy style, Pacquiao will always get the win if it's close.
