Pacquiao vs. Marquez Results: Both Boxers Stick to the Script in Early Rounds

Eric BallNov 12, 2011

After months of analyzing and predicting the outcome of Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan Manuel Marquez III, so far the experts were right.

Through six rounds of the fight, it’s clear these two are the perfect compliment to one another.

Marquez’s patient counter style didn’t made this fight incredibly exciting, but it was extremely effective. He let Pac-Man bounce around the ring like a kangaroo looking to find a chink in Marquez’s armor, but it seems like Marquez had an answer for him every time.

Every Pacquiao punch was met with a strong counter by Marquez, and Pac-Man got killed in the body-blow department.

The first six rounds of the fight were highlighted by the defense of Marquez. It’s almost like he knew what Manny was thinking before he even made a move.

At the midway point, Marquez would have likely been crowned the winner by the judges…but that’s why they have 12 rounds. You always have to expect Manny to take more risks that can lead to some huge punches in the second half of a fight.

This is exactly how we all thought it was going to be. Pac-Man chipping away, wearing the 38-year-old Marquez down slowly but surely. Yet it’s hard not to believe we just saw one of the greatest upsets in the history of the sport.
