UFC on FOX Results: Aaron Rosa Fights Back After TKO in UFC Debut

Ryan RudnanskyNov 12, 2011

Before his UFC debut, 28-year-old Aaron Rosa had compiled a 15-4 record in mixed martial arts competition.

Then his UFC debut came.

In his first action in the UFC in June, Rosa lost via TKO in the third round against veteran Joey Beltran in UFC 131. While both fighters went back and forth throughout the first two rounds, Beltran exerted his dominance in the third, and there were questions about Rosa's ability at the next level.

But Rosa answered those questions emphatically in UFC on Fox's opening bout on Saturday.

Rosa dominated foe Matt Lucas to a majority decision victory on Saturday, using his standup game to land several vicious blows, including a bevy of knees and elbows in the third round. He also demonstrated his durability and endurance, staying strong while Lucas tired in the third.

It was an impressive bounce-back performance from Rosa. It was hard to say if he was game after his UFC debut, but the way he stormed back was a good indicator he should be good enough to stick around.

It also didn't hurt that Rosa had dropped back down to 205 pounds, which helped him considerably against Lucas' takedowns. Not only was he able to scamper back to his feet on multiple occasions, it appeared to help his endurance.

Lucas himself wasn't that impressive. He curiously dropped his mouthpiece four times during the fight, being deducted a point in the second round for doing so.

Lucas had a 14-2 record before his UFC debut on Saturday, but he certainly didn't fight like a fighter who deserved to get picked up by the organization. He's going to have to reevaluate things if he intends on staying.
