Velasquez vs. Dos Santos: Heavyweight Bout Gives Fans What They Want
Unlike past UFC heavyweight fights, this title bout featuring Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos is a fight that will be exciting wherever it takes place.
Finally—a bout between two heavyweights who are well-rounded. For years, this has been the fight I’ve wanted to see and I couldn’t be any more happier that they’re meeting on such a grand stage.
Both fighters ran through opponent after opponent, and finally the two best heavyweights in the world will meet each other.
Both of these fighters are so much better than the rest of the division and I have no doubts that this is the first fight of their inevitable trilogy.
Whoever loses this fight will run through opponents to make his way back to the title fight. You can take that to the bank.
But living in the here and now, this fight is like flipping a coin. Both fighters have very impressive stand-up with most of their wins coming by way of knockout.
The only thing that separates these two is Velasquez’s superior wrestling skills, but dos Santos has showed time and time again that he has a great takedown defense.
And if Velasquez is able to get this fight to the ground, that doesn’t mean he’s in the clear, because dos Santos has some nasty Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Santos has yet to showcase it in a fight because he’s been knocking out opponents left and right, but he has a black belt under the Nogeuira brothers. And unless your name is Chael Sonnen, you have to be impressed with that.
The bottom line is that these two heavyweights are the two best heavyweights in the world, and the UFC couldn’t ask for a better fight for their network debut.
