Velasquez vs. Dos Santos Results: Velasquez Will Retain Title with TKO Win
In what appears to be an evenly matched fight, I'm expecting Cain Velasquez to knock out Junior Dos Santos and retain his heavyweight title.
Both guys are completely capable of winning this match, but I'm taking the undefeated champion.
The two fighters have contrasting styles. Velasquez is a world-class wrestler and Dos Santos is a devastating boxer. Whoever can keep the fight in their preferred domain will win.
Dos Santos is 13-1 as a professional and undefeated in the UFC. He has devastating power in his hands and can end a fight with just one punch.
His favorite weapon is a brutal uppercut that he throws with regularity. He destroyed Mirko Cro Cop with a single one and unleashed a series of them to dominate Roy Nelson.
He also has a very strong base, which makes him nearly impossible to take down.
But if anybody can do it, it's Cain Velasquez. Velasquez was a two-time All-American wrestler at Arizona State and has taken down some of the best grapplers in the UFC.
He is also a much more balanced fighter than he gets credit for being. He is an underrated puncher, even though he knocked out Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in the first round at UFC 110.
In his victory over Brock Lesnar, he landed a vicious knee before knocking out the former champ with a series of punches, again in the first round.
This fight could go either way, but I think Velasquez will win.
Look for him to take down Dos Santos and put on a ground-and-pound clinic before the ref steps in.
Final Prediction: Velasquez wins by second-round TKO.
