Tom Bradley: Interim Head Coach Is the Best Option for Penn State's Future

Will Urban Meyer want to take over at Penn State University after one of the worst scandals in sports history? Probably not anytime soon.

Penn State needs somebody it can trust. It probably knows more about the situation than I could ever dream of, but if it trusts Tom Bradley enough to give him the “interim” label, then maybe he should be the permanent option, at least for a couple years.

I don’t think he’s the coach of the future when Penn State is back competing for titles, but I think this program needs to land on its feet before taking off running, and Bradley gives it the best opportunity to do that.

He knows the area, community, campus, fans, recruiting strategies, etc. He would be the best option to restore the community in the next two years. Then, if Penn State is ready to take the next step back to relevancy, the Nittany Lions can look for a big-name coach like Meyer or somebody else.

What kind of coach is Penn State expecting to bring in who is willing enough to come there? Al Golden would be a great fit, but I can’t see him leaving Miami this soon into his tenure. Who else would be able to restore the image?

To allow the least amount of damage to the program, bringing Bradley back as the head coach would be the best option. He has proven to be about the university and program, he understands the community better than anybody else probably can, and he can also save what recruits the school may have lined up.

If he isn’t the option, then it might be a couple years longer than people think before Penn State is officially back. Also, allowing Bradley to coach a few more years will provide space after the incident which will allow more time between coaches. Time is, without a doubt, the greatest part of the healing process.

Bradley should be the coach for the immediate future. Penn State should land on its feet before trying to go for the big-name head coaches.
