NFL Predictions Week 10: Teams Set to Bounce Back After Crippling Losses

Eric BallNov 12, 2011

One of the best situational plays in the NFL is when a good team is a week removed from a crushing loss.

It usually means a week of slightly enhanced focus, more effort and a sharper performance the following Sunday.

Here are two teams that fit into this category for Week 10:

Arizona Cardinals @ Philadelphia Eagles -14

The Bears outplayed the Eagles on Monday night and the frustration is mounting. At 3-5, there is no possible way they can afford a loss to the 2-6 Cardinals and still make the playoffs. If there was ever a must-win situation in Week 10…this is it.

The Eagles' five losses have been against opponents with a combined 28-12 record, so it’s not like they are losing to cupcakes. The team ranks first in the NFL in rushing yards (172.3) and ninth in passing (262.1) thanks in large part to LeSean McCoy and Michael Vick.

It’s hard to envision a scenario where the young and inexperienced Cardinals defense has any hopes of containing the duo. Then there are these fun facts courtesy of Grantland’s Bill Simmons:

"

Philly has gained 199 first downs and given up 149. Arizona has gained 147 first downs and given up 193. Philly coverts 46.6 percent of its third downs; Arizona converts 30.9 percent.

"

This may be the best 3-5 team of all time.

Prediction: Eagles 38 Cardinals 17

Buffalo Bills +5.5 @ Dallas Cowboys

The Bills were severely outplayed last week by the Jets, but that’s a bad matchup for them.

Buffalo is 3-0-1 ATS when taking the points this season and the Cowboys have failed to cover in eight of the last 10 times it has been a home favorite.

The Bills defense isn’t spectacular, but it leads the AFC with 15 interceptions. That’s bad news for the wildly inconsistent Tony Romo.

Buffalo QB Ryan Fitzpatrick’s short passing-spread style is perfectly suited for the indoor stadium carpet. Expect the Bills to easily exceed their 27.8 scoring average.

With the Cowboys missing cornerback Michael Jenkins, receiver Miles Austin and running back Felix Jones…take the points and the better team.

Prediction: Bills 31 Cowboys 24
