Miami Marlins Uniforms Are Among Worst in History

Josh SchochNov 12, 2011

The Miami Marlins unveiled their new uniforms, logo and stadium yesterday, and they were, well, horrible.

The Marlins' new orange jerseys are revolting and will make players look like giant, walking Creamsicles.

I'm not sure why Jose Reyes, Albert Pujols, or Mark Buehrle might want to don these jerseys, but, hey, maybe they really like the color orange.

When I first saw these jerseys, I thought they were terrible and wondered: Where do these rank among the worst MLB uniforms in history?

Apparently they're up there.  Pretty high on the list, too.

Of the worst uniforms in MLB history, there are a few that absolutely must be mentioned.

First off, you have the San Diego Padres' camouflage jerseys.  The Padres have brought us quite a few bad jerseys, and these were among the worst ever.  Their mustard-yellow and brown jerseys from the 1980s were also pretty bad.

The Seattle Mariners tried bringing back their Pilots jerseys in 1999, and they were a fiasco.

The Chicago White Sox actually played a game wearing shorts in 1976, so those have to be mentioned as well.

The Houston Astros tried incorporating red, yellow and orange disco stripes across their jerseys, simply confusing opponents and fans alike.  That's not what they were supposed to do, but pitching to someone wearing one of those rainbow jerseys had to make you laugh.

The Kansas City Royals tried wearing yellow in the late 1990s, so they're worth mentioning as well.

There have been quite a few terrible jersey choices in baseball's history, which spans three centuries.  However, the Marlins new jerseys are still pretty high on the list.

I'd rank them behind the Astros' acid jerseys and both of the Padres' jerseys.  I'd also rank them behind the shorts-wearing White Sox, and if you want to include minor leagues, the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs wore tuxedo jerseys.

In my opinion, the new Marlins jerseys rank fifth or sixth worst in MLB history with the Royals jerseys being the wildcard, and that's saying a lot.

However, it really doesn't matter what I think because the Marlins are going to wear them anyway.  Hopefully, they at least get one superstar in that bright orange jersey.
