Pacquiao vs. Marquez: Confident Pac-Man Will Use Speed to KO Dinamita

Tim DanielsNov 12, 2011

One great thing about Manny Pacquiao is that he usually tells you exactly how he feels. If he believes there is a clear advantage in his favor, he isn't afraid to say so.

That's the case against Juan Manuel Marquez, who Pac-Man believes will be too slow to stay with him on Saturday night (via Yahoo! News).

"

Marquez, a lightweight champion moving up in size, also weighed 142 pounds in his only prior welterweight fight, a 2009 loss by decision to unbeaten US star Floyd Mayweather.

"He's a big target," Pacquiao said. "It's not easy to put on more weight and maintain your speed. You get slower. My speed is going to be a problem for him."

And in reality, he's right.

Dinamita focused on adding power in hopes of making a statement against Pacquiao with a big win, but he did just fine with his counterattacking approach from their previous two fights. He might not have won, but both bouts could have gone either way.

That makes it kind of surprising he would change his approach this time and risk losing some of his speed and defense. Not to mention, Marquez is 38, so his reaction time is naturally slowing by now as well.

It works both ways, of course, because Pacquiao had to lose weight leading up to Saturday's bout. However, Pac-Man has proven he's capable of doing it without missing a beat.

The Fighting Pride of the Philippines is a heavy favorite for a reason. He's the most complete fighter and is out to shut up Marquez, who has been claiming he deserved to win the first two fights.

When you give the better fighter that type of motivation, it becomes hard to imagine him losing.

Look for Pacquiao to come out quickly and give Dinamita no time to settle in. A knockout would go a long way in confirming Pac-Man as the world's best pound-for-pound boxer.

Even though it will take some time for Marquez to wear down, he eventually will, and that should lead to a Pacquiao knockout.
