Penn State Scandal: Remaining Games Are Only Saving Grace for Nittany Lions
The only way to stop talking about the Penn State sex scandal is to talk about Penn State football. Unfortunately, there are only three more games on the regular season schedule to make that happen. Even more unfortunate is that the Nittany Lions have their three toughest games to close the season with.
They're currently 8-1 on the season, with a 5-0 conference record. Today, they introduced new conference rival Nebraska to Beaver Stadium.
Barring no controversy, this game would have been a huge deal.
The Nittany Lions have been surprisingly stout so far on the year, but have only this game remaining at home. They still have to travel to Columbus and Madison to close the year.
Getting away from the university will be the best thing for this team, though.
The feeling on campus has to be something that these kids have never experienced before. Actually, the feeling on campus has to be something nobody's ever felt before. This situation is foreign to everyone involved. And that makes football the only saving grace for Penn State. For at least three hours of every week, the entire campus can focus on something else other than the mysterious dark cloud hanging over the university.
This scandal continues to get deeper and deeper, and it affects more and more people on a daily basis.
The Nittany Lions have the opportunity to win the Big Ten and play in a BCS bowl this year. Everyone seems to have forgotten that.
Football was lost in this situation from the very beginning. Ironically enough, it is football that is going to help them get over it.
