9 Reasons Alberto Del Rio Is Irrelevant as WWE Champion

The "Mexican Aristocrat" is the current WWE champion. And for some reason, no one seems to care.

Fancy cars, a personal ring announcer and some foreign accent can't seem to make the WWE universe like him.

In fact, they truly hate the "heel" and what he stands for.

It should be a gold mine for the WWE. A champion that is a true heel that does not blur the lines of like and dislike. Someone who looks down at everyone and thumbs his nose at the very company that gave him an opportunity.

What an act and what a concept.

Del Rio is heading into another PPV event with arguably the most popular star in the WWE in CM Punk, and the current champion cannot buy a break.

And while Del Rio will probably find a way to win the title and keep his possession, it will not be a popular choice by the fans and IWC.

And, it you are wondering why Del Rio, and not the WWE Title, is so irrelevant, here are some more reasons.

He Doesn't Put Fear in Anyone

What you see is a wrestler with a silver spoon in his mouth.

Oh wait, wasn't that what Gordon Solie used to say about Ric Flair back in the day?

I am not trying to make a comparison here, but I could.

But honestly, when you look at Del Rio, you see nothing intimidating about him. Nothing that screams "champion."

The Use of His Ring Announcer Is Getting Old

We see it week after week.

Little Ricardo Rodriguez, Tattoo for short, comes out and interferes in a match.

Old, old, old.

He needs new material and needs to get rid of the midget.

His Arrogance Is the Only Thing He Has

Mind you, he is a good wrestler, and technically, he is as sound as any of the greats of the past and today.

What really stands out about him is the arrogance with which he speaks.

Besides that, I think he is very vanilla.

There Are Non-Title Characters Who Have the Spotlight Right Now

He is actually being upstaged by wrestlers like Sheamus and Wade Barrett, who are getting pushes on Smackdown.

Those two wrestlers have more character and believability than the current champion.

He Is Not Liked by the COO

If he is still making decisions for the company, then Triple H is not doing any favors for Del Rio.

Wasn't it Del Rio that told Triple H that he prayed for the day that Vince would come back to the company and take his place?

Not the thing to say to a guy who can fire you in a heartbeat.

He Isn't Like Rey Mysterio

The one person he is compared with is injured and out of action.

Rey Mysterio in the ring helps Del Rio. A feud with Sin Cara helps Del Rio.

People want to see the Luchador wrestlers.

Right now, they are not.

If He Hasn't Noticed, There Is a Conspiracy in the WWE

I am sure at some point, he will be raked into this scenario.

Del Rio should have a bigger role in this angle, but he is really just a sideshow.

The movement by Christian, Dolph Ziggler, Vickie, et al is much bigger news than what Del Rio is doing.

He Isn't John Cena

Del Rio is not as fluid on the mic.

And Cena is immensely popular.

When Cena talks, people listen.

When Del Rio talks, people go to the bathroom.

He Isn't CM Punk

And to take things one step further, CM Punk got screwed at Summer Slam.

People love the anti-hero. And they want him to wear gold.

So when all things are graded and reasoned, Del Rio cannot carry a candle to the Straight-Edged Superstar, either.
